Jacob Westphal, a son of Jurian and Syntie (Van Kuykendall)
Westphal, was born in NY in 1715. He was baptized in the Dutch Church
June 8, 1715. He married Judike Hornbeck in NY. The family was in
Hampshire County VA by 1747. In 1772, they moved to Randolph County
VA, where they were know as Jacob and Judith Westfall.

JACOB MIGRATED TO THE WILDERNESS OF VIRGINIA IN 1743 WITH HIS UNCLE JOHANNES
AND COUSIN ABEL. WESTFALL FORT IN VA NAMED AFTER JACOB.
This is the information I have regarding Jacob and Judith
Jacob son of Jurian and Christina Kuykendall, and grandson of John Jurian b 1657 and
Marietje (Margaret) Kool
Judith Hornbeck daughter of Joost Hornbeck b 1682 and Aegje Van Lviet b. 1686 Judith
Was the grandaughter of Warnaar Hornbeck b. abt 1660 and Anneken De Hooges b. abt 1670
Jacob b. 8 Jun 1715 and Judith b. 19 Aug 1716 m abt 1735 in Minisink Ny Moved to VA
abt 1740 when That area of was opened for settlement. Jacob, Judith and William are all
mentioned in Early land records.
Children: note the Randolph County history states that Jacob and Judith had 5 sons and 3 daughters??
(1) William b 26 mar 1735 NY d. Ohio abt 1810 (Ohio Pioneer) m. Elizabeth Thorne
(2) Joel 14 Oct 1751 m. Mary Houston
(3) Jacob Jr. m. Mary King left Va. In 1792, three years before William sold his Va. Estate. Jacob
stayed in Ky. For several years before he went on to Ohio. After a number of years in Ohio
he moved to Indiana.
*The book on Westfall Research that I have states that the following are Possible Children of Jacob*
(4) Abel born just before or shortly after the move to Va. He was kidnapped by Indians
in 1758 and was taken to Ohio to an Indian village Called Chillecothe one of several
called that by the Delawares. He was married by then and his wife and child were
killed by the Indians. Abel ran a trading post for several years in the Indian village
and it has been said that the Indians later burned it down.

Early Records of Va.
1764 – Aug – School was hel in a bldg. on the plantation of Jacob Westfall. Mr. Stone was the
teacher. Jacob and his wife, Judith sold 140 acres on Luneye creek Mar 12 1764 to Peter Reeves
of Philadelphia. Witnesses were, William Westfall, and Mathew Kuykendall Jacob was identified
as "old Jacob" in the Draper Manuscripts and is presumed to have d. in KY.
1780 – Sep 19-Jacob Westfall Jr. qualified as qst Lt, Conrad Bogard as 2nd Lt. In Capt Wilsons Co.

Old Jacob Stallnicker and Adam his son lived in Jacob Westfall's fort. Adam had been to Col. Ben Wilson's mill and was returning, he and his father. They had gotten their flour and were returning home. The Indians fired and killed Adam. His father escaped on his horse. Old man, I think, said he saw but two Indians. I saw the tree that Adam fell against, the blood was there a long time. And I
saw him after he was scalped and nobody ever would have known him. He had been as pretty a man as you would see in a month. But his face was now all sunk away to be not wider than your hand. Capt.John White lived at Jacob Westfall's fort. Killed by the Indians in the neighborhood of JACOB WESTFALL's fort. Had married Adam Stallnicker's sister Katherine (Katy). Adam helped to dig the grave. Capt.John White had gone up to the upper part of the valley on business. Adam Stallnicker helped make a coffin, which they sent up to bring Capt.White down in, when he was killed and while it was gone, he helped dig the grave in which White was to be buried. It was in the middle of summer. They found him so black and mortified they couldn't bring him and so brought back the coffin. Not long after, Adam Stallnicker was put in the same coffin and interred in the same grave which himself had prepared.
