Muncie/Muncy - Union, Monroe, Kentucky  

Text:  John N. Muncie--"When but a lad some ten years old, John Muncie moved with his parents to Sequatchie Valley, Tenn., where he received such an education as could be obtained at the early schools of Tennessee. There also, he was married, and soon afterward bought a partially improved farm, where he successfully engaged in agricultural pursuits until the fall of 1857, when he sold out and removed to Monroe County, KY., where he bought another farm, upon which he resided until his death, which occurred in March, 1858. He and his wife were life-long and devoted members of the Christian Church. In politics he was a Whig. He commenced life with no capital, but by industry and economy accumulated an estate above the average farmer. Mrs. Mahala Muncie is yet living, and resides on the old homestead in Monroe County, Ky."--Page 809 of the book "History of Kentucky" 1886, owned by Peggy Muncie Bolle. "A family of six children born to John and Mahala (Billingsley) Muncie, the former of whom was a native of Virginia, and the latter of Bledsoe County, TN; both of English descent, and born in 1816.'--Above book.

The John Muncie family is buried in the White Family Cemetery, Sulphur Lick, KY. It is about 12 miles north of Tompkinsville, KY. The Monroe County, KY Death Records show his death as 9 Mar 1858, but the Monroe County Cemetery Records show his death as 4  Mar 1858. Cause of death was shown as fever.

It is not know exactly when, but this family changed the spelling of its name from Muncy to Muncie. They are the only ones who did.
