Captain John Snoddy of Washington County Virginia.  He was born in Scotland and died in Washington County in 1784.  He emigrated to American about 1740 and lived in Philadelphia PA, where he was married to Agnes Glasgow, Oct 7, 1741) a native of Scotland born 1722, died in 1806  Children, Jane, John, Mary, Samuel, Elizabeth, Robert, Alice, and William

 

Leaving PA, John and Agnes Glasgow migrated to Buckingham County VA, where several of their children were born.  Prior to the War of the Revolution.  They settled permanently in Washington County VA, where he served as Captain of the Militia in 1777 and later served under Colonel William Cambell at the Battle of Kings Mountain.

 

As John and his father were leaving their home in Maryland to take up residence in Washington County NC, it was considered important to have proof of his loyalty to the colonies.  After locating in NC, he enlisted in Captain Evan Shelby's Company of Volunteers.   Soon after this battle took place John Brown married Alice Snoddy, daughte of Captin John Snoddy and Agnes Glasgow, who was married on Oct 7, 1741
