In a letter dated August 21, 1958, he wrote that Margaret Amanda Ross "had three children by Todd, who, according to family tradition, was related to Mary Todd Lincoln. They had a daughter born the day Lincoln left for the White house the first time and named her Mary after her suddenly-famous aunt... (the relationship to the Lexington Todds must have been rather distant). Margaret Amanda Ross, although born in Tennessee, probably was not born in Dyer Co., but moved there with Todd after her marriage."

The Todd children, their mother and W.H. Todd and his family came to Texas in 1877 or 1878. G.H. Todd and his parents had died in Dyer Co. Joseph Todd, an uncle, was the only Todd to stay in Tennessee.

After Todd died, Margaret Amanda married a man named Horton who had several children by his first wife. They settled in Fannin County, near Savoy. Frank Todd later married a Maggie Hiner and moved near Duke Oklahoma. The daughter "Jenny" married one of her Horton step-brothers. Horton died soon after coming to Texas and Margaret Amanda married (3rd) Jim Williams.
