Absolem A. Kuykendall was born on August 25, 1814 in Cookeville, Putman County, Tennesee. His father was Matthew Kuykendall and his mother was Nancy Johnson.

On September 14, 1834 he married Nancy Dean in Nashville, Tennessee. They had eight children: John Callaway, Nancy, Mary, William, Abner, Mewaski, Wiley and Russell.

In 1837 he moved to Texas with his brothers to Join Austin's colony. Census records show his residences were Crescent, Iowa (1860), Union, Iowa (1870), Grove, Iowa (1880) and San Antonio, Texas (1890).

In 1855 he maried Drusilla Dragoo and they had four children, Matthew, James, David and Geoge

He died on January 1, 1900 in Dow city, Iowa and was buried in Saints Oakwood Cemetary in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.
