6. | Humphrey Madison was born on 25 Apr 1730 in King & Queen Co, VA (son of Thomas Madison and Johanna Buckner??); died on 12 Sep 1756 in Jackson River, Bath, VA. Other Events and Attributes:
- Residence: Nov 1749, Caroline County, Virginia, USA; Humphrey Madison witness to deed Stone to Bowler. This record is among several for other Madisons, such as Roger and Thomas, and helps support the notion that Humprey was in their family

Notes:
Humphrey Madison's origins are obscure. I know of no contemporaneous documentation of his parents. He is almost always presented as a grandson of President James Madison's great-grandfather, John Madison, Jr (1640-1705). Most online trees and stories list Humphrey as the son of John Madison III and John's first wife Eliza Minor (whose origins appear to be completely undocumented). He is listed as a son of John Madison III's brother Thomas in only a couple of resources that I've found, including the 1903 book Reminisces of Eastern Oregon by Mrs. Elizabeth Lord.
Died:
Died in an attack of Fort Dickinson, where Capt John Dickinson (his brother-in-law) may have been negligent in organizing the defense
Humphrey married Mary Dickinson on 17 Aug 1753 in Augusta Co, VA. Mary (daughter of Adam Dickinson and Catherine Stephenson) was born in 1725 in Augusta Co, VA; died after 1797 in Augusta Co, VA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
