Notes	John Billingsley was born 1647, in Rotterdam, Holland, died ca 1690 (lost at sea). Married Jan 1669 in Richmond Co, VA, Sarah Ann Billingsley (1st cousin), born 1652 in Essex County, VA, died 1612, probably in St. Mary's County, MD, daugher of William Billingsley and his wife Sarah Bowman, of Essex Co, VA, who married 2nd William Evart. Sarah Ann Billingsley married as her 2nd husband William Brown of Richmond Co, VA - Historical Southern Families, Volume III, pp 22-23 John was was a ship captain for most of his adult life, and transported many of the men for which his uncle Francis received land grants. Francis evidently paid for those trips, and that's what counted. I'm not sure whether John undertook transatlantic voyages, or just sailed among the mid-Atlantic states, so I can't say how far at sea he might have been when he was lost. He came to Nansemond County, Virginia with his parents and uncles John and James Billingsley prior to 1649. Arrived in Calvert County, Maryland with his parents about 1652. He moved to Richmond County, Virginia with his parents about 1659. He and his brothers Francis and Edward were legatees to a "Cowe Calfe" each in the will of James Billingsley in 1663, who calls them "my three cozens (nephews) on the Rapehannock." They were also mentioned in the will of Susannah Billingsley, widow of James, in the same year. - Source Unknown.
