A centotaph (a gravestone-like monument) in the cemetery where he was buried uses the Anglicized name "John Adam Wattenbarger." His father Johann Adam was born in 1760 in Pennsylania with the slightly Anglicized surname "Wuertemberger , and his grandfather, was born in 1839 in Württemberg (now part of Germany) as Johann Adam Württemberger
