Notes	Jacob Kümmerlin (later Kimberling) sailed to America in1750 with his wife Maria and children Adam Johannes, Johann Reinhard, Maria Catherine, and (maybe) Maria Eva on "The Osgood", which departed Rotterdam in May, stopped in Cowles, England, and arrived in Philadelphia on 28 Sep. A fellow passenger on that voyage, GottliebMittelberger, who stayed for years to repair and install church organs, wrote a distincly distopoan view of that voyage and of the general experience of europeans coming to America. He published it in Germnan in 1756, and it was translated into English in a 129-page book in 1898. ABOUT 1793 ADAM AND HIS SON, JACOB, PURCHASED SOME LAND ON THE CEDAR CREEK, A TRIBUTARY OF THE JACKSON RIVER AND ABOUT 20 MILES UPSTREAM FROM COVINGTON, VA. THIS IS SITUATED IN PRESENT BATH CO.,VA. IN 1803 ADAM AND NANCY AND THEIR CHILDREN MOVED TO MASON CO., THE KIMBERLINGS TRAVELED FROM COVINGTON, VA. TO CHARLESTON, VA IN A TWO-WHEELED OX CART ON THE ARMY POST ROAD. FROM THE FALLS BELOW CHARLESTON, THEY FLOATED DOWN THE KANAWHA RIVER ON A RAFT TO GRIMM'S LANDING. AFTER MAKING A SLED FROM THE RAFT, THEY HITCHED UP THE OXEN, WENT OVER TWO HILLS AND SETTLED ON THIRTEEN &gtMILE CREEK.
