Born Barren County, Kentucky 19 November 1805, moved to Bledsoe County, Tennessee with his parents prior to 1812. He married (1) prior to 1839 Mellie Metcalf born 18—, she died about 1841 and he married (2) 19 November 1843 Hannah D. Myers; born Tennessee 1815, daughter of John C. Myers and Miss [Mary] Snoddy, see Myers Excursus. Resided Bledsoe County to 1855 then moved to Van Buren County, Tennessee where she died 9 April 1867, born Virginia in 1842, he died 16 May 1883. He was a minister in the Christian church.

Children:

  1. Cyrus: b 1839. He married prior to 1860 Elizabeth Plumlee, b Tenn. 1842. He enlisted 21 Oct. 1861 at McMinnville, Tenn. as Pvt. I, 16 Tenn. Inf. C. S. A.; a roll dated Dec. 1862 shows him absent, sick; a roll dated Feb. 1863 shows, "deserted 1 Nov. 1862." A roll dated July 1863 shows A. W. O. L.; and a roll dated Aug. 1863 shows, "deserted at Knoxville, Tenn. 1 Nov. 1862." (War Dept. records.) A record in Biographical Compendium of Cumberland Region, published in 1898 states he was a Confederate soldier and was wounded at Perryville, Ky. and died of said wound in 1865. He is listed as a school teacher in 1860.
    She [Elizabeth Plumlee] m (2) prior to 1869 A. J. Green, b Tenn. 1844 and resided Van Buren Co., Tenn. in 1870.
    They [Cyrus Billingsley and Elizabeth Plumlee] had:
    1. John M.: b Feb. 1860, deceased 1932.,
    2. Phineas: b 1862, deceased 1932.
    3. Benjamin Franklin: b 1865, deceased 1932.
    4. William A. Green: b 1869.
  2. Child: b 1841, died infancy.
  3. David: b 1845, 2d wife, died at. 2 or 3 years.
  4. Mary Roxana: b 1848, died in 1850’s.
  5. William Newton: b 9 Nov. 1853 Bledsoe Co., Tenn. Grad. Burritt College 1872, A.M. and immediately became a teacher at Eaton Institute and served 2 1/2 years; Principal of Onward Seminary for 14 years; served as Superintendent public instruction White Co., Tenn. 1887-1891. Became President of Burritt College in 1889 and served to date of his death in 1912 which followed an operation, resided Spencer, Tenn. Never married.
With third wife, Mary Dickerson
  1. Virginia M.: b 1869, was living in 1898 in White Co., is said to be unmarried and was living in 1932 at Spencer, Tenn.
